How Home Dumpster Rentals Work—A Dumpster Rental Guide
As you prepare to rent a dumpster for home clean-out of household items, junk removal, landscaping, remodeling, renovation, or any home project that will create waste, it can be helpful to have all your questions answered before delivery. We want to make your home dumpster rental experience a great one!
Call Us 24 Hours a Day
The professional, full-service sales staff at Cobblestone Container Service, a PA dumpster rental company with national coverage, can take your call M-F 8AM-4PM. In addition, we employ an answering service that’s available 24 hours a day. We’ll return your call the following business day if you call after hours.
Order Your Home Dumpster Rental at Least 24 Hours in Advance
Standard delivery lead time is 24 hours from renting a dumpster; however, this depends on availability in your service area. We recommend allowing at least one extra business day for processing. However, if you need a dumpster rental for home renovation or clean-out on Monday, you can generally get it if you call by Friday at noon EST.
If You Need to Change or Cancel an Order
Need a different drop-off and pick-up date? How about a larger roll-off dumpster? An additional container? Or has the project been tabled? Call us anytime to cancel or adjust your home dumpster service with our customer service department. Please have your order confirmation, delivery address, and order number available when you call. If your residential dumpster rental cancelation occurs less than 24 hours before your scheduled delivery, a cancelation fee may apply.
Home Dumpster Rental Period Details
Additional rental charges will only start to accrue after the quoted dumpster rental period has expired, and this rate will be established during the initial rental agreement.
If you have the container longer than 30 days without any service, we may need to charge an inactivity fee or schedule it to be removed.
Call us if you want your home dumpster rental to be picked up early, and we can normally accommodate your needs. Please give us at least one business day from when you call to allow for processing and scheduling. Note that no discounts are offered for roll-off containers used for less than ten days.
Home Dumpster Rental Fees
The price quote typically includes delivery, pick-up, disposal, and dumpster rental for home renovation or clean-out for a predetermined period. Additional rental and taxes may apply in some situations.
Depending on your location, there may be a fee for delivery of the first roll-off container. However, under normal circumstances, exchanges (dump-and-returns) have no additional delivery fee.
If a driver arrives on the agreed-upon date to pick up your rented dumpster and you’re not ready to remove it, a dry-run (trip) charge will be applied.
If the tonnage of your filled container exceeds the weight allowance included in your order, additional disposal charges will apply. The excess disposal weight rate will be quoted on your sales receipt and processed once confirmed.
All dumpster services are pre-paid. We accept all major credit cards. If you incur additional charges, they will be added to that credit card as they occur.
The Space Needed for Your Roll-Off Dumpster
As a rule of thumb, allow for double the size of the footprint of the container, and note any overhead wires or obstructions that could get in the way of delivery. You can find the roll-off container measurements here.
You do not need to be present to take delivery; however, we ask that you be specific with delivery instructions and understand that any relocation charges will be your responsibility if you aren’t onsite for delivery. Also, unobstructed access must be granted on pick-up day; otherwise, fees may apply.
Where to Place the Roll-Off Dumpster
Roll-off containers are not light. We highly recommend that you protect any surface where it will be placed with 4’ x 8’ sheets of plywood under each roller. We cannot be responsible for damages to surfaces. You may be able to have your container delivered to the street—check with your municipality and ask if a permit is required.
What You Can Put in Your Home Dumpster Rental
Most general waste from home renovations and clean-out is okay to put in your home dumpster rental. However, you may NOT put the following in the roll-off container:
- Refrigerators
- Freezers
- Microwaves
- Fluorescent Tubes
- Air Conditioning Units
- Antifreeze
- Oil (motor, transmission, hydraulic)
- Oil Filters
- Bricks
- Concrete
- Food Waste
- Asbestos
- Railroad Ties
- Hazardous Waste
- Industrial Waste
- Radioactive Material
- Medical Waste
- Regulated Waste
- Chemicals
- Solvents
- Herbicides
- Pesticides
- Soil (contaminated and uncontaminated)
- Liquids (flammable and inflammable)
- Paint (unless completely dried latex paint is in cans)
- Lead Paint Chips
- Gas Bottles
- Aerosol Cans
- Tires
- Batteries
- Mattresses
- Computer Monitors
- Hard Drives
- Televisions
Your local or landfill ordinances may have additional restrictions.
Roll-off dumpsters can be filled up to 2” from the top (they must be tarped for removal) unless they are used for clean concrete waste—in which case they can only be filled halfway to account for weight limits.
The Different Types of Debris
The type of debris you add to your rental roll-off dumpster matters, and we’ll ask you to describe what you plan to put in there.
General Waste Debris
Light waste from a household clean-up. Green waste is acceptable.
Clean Construction Debris
Any debris that might be generated by a DIYer or construction crew during a new residential construction or renovation project (wood, plaster, insulation, Styrofoam, tiles, shingles, ceramics, drywall, etc.).
Clean Concrete
Concrete only—NO bricks, asphalt, or ceramics.
